Beauty of Winter Light
For me, photography is painting with light. I am always on the lookout for special light conditions - the actual motif and its positioning is what most often catches my eye, but before the actual capturing click, I spend most of the time rearranging the camera's position, while focusing on the background and the light behind the object.
I try to “imagine” what the background will look like later, when I develop the image.
These three photos were taken during the extended Golden Hour in winter, here in Germany - when the shadows appear blue, especially in combination with snow. The low sun hitting the ice crystals lets them shine above the background.
The quality of natural light changes throughout the day, depending on the angle of the sun in respect to the horizon and of course, the location in respect to the equator and the season. Basically, there are some morning and evening “magic hours” for photography called the Blue Hour and the Golden Hour.
The Blue Hour is during twilight, so before sunrise and after sunset. The Golden Hour is right after sunrise and right before sunset. The three photos were taken on an early morning in January 2017.
